Knights and Knaves

By Inge Strydom

Knight

This week’s knights are the cyclists Stephan Schoeman from Centurion and his pedal friend Michael Byleveld. Over the Easter Weekend they, together with some other cyclists, pedalled about 500 km from Dullstroom to Ermelo and from there to Pretoria. They were collecting money that the Bibles for Believers organisation are going to use to buy Chichewa Bibles for pastors in Malawi. At the same time their trailers were packed with Afrikaans, English, Zulu and Ndebele Bibles that they took to the Full Gospel Church in Ermelo. Schoeman and Byleveld are passionate cyclists and the past four years saw them covering about 15 000 km.

Knave

The former municipal traffic chief in Limpopo, Thilivhale Mulaudzi (48), is this week’s knave. At this point in time Mulaudzi has 1 640 charges of fraud and the transgression of the national traffic laws pending against him. Amongst other things he is said to have helped more than 800 people to obtain drivers’ licences illegally. He was arrested in July last year and was released on R20 000 bail in August. Mulaudzi appeared in die regional court in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) this week. However, the case was transferred to the Sibasa regional court this week, where it will be resumed on 20 May 2013.
