Minimum vereistes:
- LEKTOR: MA in Afrikaans, Afrikaans en Nederlands, Algemene Taalwetenskap (lektor)
- SENIOR LEKTOR/MEDEPROFESSOR/PROFESSOR: PhD in Afrikaanse taalkunde of in Algemene Taalwetenskap (met spesialisering in Fonetiek en Fonologie/Sosiolinguistiek/Variasietaalkunde (of verwante dissipline)
- ’n NNS-gradering sal ʼn sterk aanbeveling wees vir medeprofessor en professor
Ander bevoegdheidsvereistes:
- Lektor: Een jaar toepaslike ervaring
- Senior Lektor: Drie jaar toepaslike ervaring
- Medeprofessor: Agt jaar toepaslike ervaring
- Professor: Tien jaar toepaslike ervaring
- Die vermoë om punte akkuraat te bereken
- Uitstekende taalbeheersing (mondeling en skriftelik)
- ʼn Sterk navorsingsingesteldheid en goeie navorsingsvaardighede
- Tegniese vakkundigheid in Afrikaanse Fonetiek en Fonologie/Sosiolinguistiek/Variasietaalkunde
- Goeie onderrigvaardighede en kommunikasievermoë
- Publikasies in geakkrediteerde tydskrifte en kongresdeelname (nasionaal en internasionaal)
- Kennis van innoverende onderrigmetodes, multimedia en klaskamerpraktyk
- Rekenaarvaardigheid in MS Office, internet en e-pos
- Goeie organisasievermoë, administratiewe vaardighede en ’n goeie kliëntediensingesteldheid
- Demonstrasie van taalvaardigheid om optimaal in die verskeie veeltalige omgewings van die NWU te funksioneer

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Teaching of Afrikaans and Dutch linguistics
Responsibilities:
- Teaching of Afrikaans Phonetics and Phonology and Sociolinguistics/Variation Linguistics
- Ongoing research in and about Afrikaans Phonetics/Phonology/Sociolinguistics/Variation Linguistics
- Postgraduate supervision in Afrikaans Phonetics and Phonology and Sociolinguistics/Variation Linguistics
- Presentation of and supervision in other linguistics modules (at undergraduate and postgraduate level) as may be required
- Administrative and subject-related duties as instructed
Minimum requirements:
- Lecturer: MA in Afrikaans, Afrikaans and Dutch or General Linguistics preferably with specialization in Phonetics and Phonology/Sociolinguistics/Variation Linguistics (or related discipline)
- Senior lecturer/associate professor/professor: PhD Afrikaans, Afrikaans and Dutch or General Linguistics preferably with specialization in Phonetics and Phonology/Sociolinguistics/Variation
- An NRF rating for will be a strong recommendation for Associate Professor and Professor
Other competency requirements:
- Lecturer: One year appropriate experience
- Senior Lecturer: Three years’ appropriate experience
- Associate Professor: Eight years’ appropriate experience
- Professor: Ten years’ appropriate experience
- The ability to calculate marks accurately
- Excellent language proficiency (verbal and written)
- A sound research orientation and good research skills
- Technical expertise in Afrikaans Phonetics and Phonology/Sociolinguistics/Variation Linguistics
- Good teaching skills and communication ability
- Publications in accredited journals and participation in conferences (nationally and internationally)
- Knowledge of innovative teaching methods, multimedia and classroom practice
- Computer literacy in MS Office, internet and email
- Good organising ability, administrative skills and a good client-service orientation
- Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
